Micro-conversions

Meaningful immediate actions are still worth tracking, especially for businesses where the main conversions (such as a sale or booking) are infrequent or slow to occur.

What a micro-conversion actually is

Micro-conversions are small actions that signal interest or progress toward the main goal. Whereas a main, or macro-conversion, is the key event you are driving users towards—such as completing a purchase, or signing up for an account—micro-conversions look to track actions a visitor makes on their way towards that point.

Common examples of micro-conversions

Any action a user takes on the path to completing the main conversion can be identified and tracked as a micro-conversion. Examples of common micro-conversions include the following:

  • Adding an item to a cart
  • Viewing pricing or contract details
  • Watching a product video
  • Signing up for a newsletter
  • Downloading a resource or guide
  • Starting, but not necessarily completing, a form
